Somewhere to Disappear
European filmmakers Laure Flammarion and Arnaud Uyttenhove followed the American photographer Alec Soth all over America from winter 2008 to spring 2009.
Riding in the back of the artist’s van, they drove from one state to another. The result is a 57 minutes movie about the photographer and his project, called ‘How to disappear in America,’ about people who decided to withdraw themselves from society.
The road trip offers a series of incredible meetings but it also tells the story of an introspective journey. Take a look at the film here.
When things are shaky and nothing is working, we might realize that we are on the verge of something. We might realize that this is a very vulnerable and tender place, and that tenderness can go either way. We can shut down and feel resentful or we can touch in on that throbbing quality.
